Iphone 7 Keyboard Volume

I loaded IOS 10 on my Iphone 6S Plus and loved the new keyboard click sounds. I received my Iphone 7 Plus today and turned on Keyboard clicks, turned ringer volume up to max and I can barely hear the clicks in the most quiet room. Also the sound of music coming out the dual speakers is lousy and certainly no better than the Iphone 6S. All other sounds work normally. If Apple is going to have an option for keyboard click sounds then you need to let us hear them. Disappointing to say the least on a $1000 phone.

I noticed the clicks problem 2 yrs ago when I purchased my iPhone 6 Plus. The difference between my 5 and 6 is dramatically different. I complained, I exchanged, and finally I realized that there was no way I was going to be able to go back to the sound that my 5 had. For some reason apple thinks that people do not want this sound. Which is completely incorrect. I have now upgraded to a 7 plus and just like my 6 there is no way to increase the keyboard click sound. I have tried every thing and nothing. So now I will beg and plead with apple however you applied the click sound in your 5 and before please apply to the new phones!! I like my clicks, I need them, and most of all I miss them!!!

On IOS 10.3.2 the keyboard clicks are still barely audible. It's very annoying. I have to increase the ringer to the max to actually hear any clicks, which is also annoying. I keep my ringer at half the volume. There should be a separate slider for the keyboard clicks.

Apple! If you care about your frustrated customers you will post an official statement in this thread.

Hello Soundhd and welcome to the Apple Support Communities. Judging by your name, I believe that you like to listen to sound. When Apple announced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus they talked about the speakers on the iPhone(s) a lot. Have you tried rebooting and/or hard rebooting? Also, if your iPhone 7 Plus is still in warranty, I would suggest to go to your local Apple Store and have them take a look at it.

I cannot speak for music/video audio as that is not giving me trouble, but I too am having a problem with the keyboard clicks. I can put my iPhone 6s Plus and my iPhone 7 plus directly next to each other (both running the same OS version) and hear a stark difference in the volume of the keyboard clicks.

Thus far I have:

  • Restarted the device - no fix.
  • Ensured the volume controls are adjusting keyboard clicks; it is quiet on max but can get even quieter.

Did this by opening notes and holding volume keys while randomly typing; can confirm volume goes up and down, but does not get anywhere near as loud as my old phone.

  • Restored from my old phone's backup a second time; no fix.

Update, I found another thread (iOS 10 keyboard sound volume) where users are reporting the same problem on other iPhone models outside of the iPhone 7. This would seem to point more to the issue being iOS 10.0.1. Upon further investigation of my old iPhone, it seems I did NOT update my iPhone 6S Plus to iOS 10.0.1. I will attempt to do that in the next day or two and see if that hoses the keyboard volume. If it does, that means it is a confirmed replica table issue with the latest build of iOS 10.

Ditton almost everything you just said @Krahnin. I too realized this anomaly and did a quick comparison between my wife's iPhone 6S and my iPhone 7 and there's definitely an audible difference in volume. I made sure her volume was turned all the way down as low as possible (1 square) just like mine. I then held each phone's speakers up to my ear and tapped a few keys on the keyboard. Just to be sure I wasn't losing my mind, I also had my wife compare the volume of both phones and she agreed that her phone was louder. About to install 10.0.2 though--we'll see if the problem is resolved in that bug fix release!

Update: I contacted Apple Support and they have escalated the issue to their development team for a review and response. I was told I would hear something back in 48 to 72 hours. Dev should be able to tell us if it is a software or hardware issue and if they have any plans to fix it. Support also called me back to tell me 10.0.2 was out and to see if that might have fixed the issue. It did not. I will update the post when i hear back from Apple. Thanks.

Support had me make a Genius Bar appointment. While waiting i tested the keyboard clicks on other Iphone 7 Plus's and the sound was the same, barely audible. The Iphone 7 (not the plus) was a little louder. The Genius Bar Tech had me reset all settings. It did seem a little better but by the time i was in my car it was once again barely audible. My suggestion is to get on Apple's beta program and submit the problem to the developers directly through their bug reporting app. If they get enough bug reports on this issue maybe they will address it but i am sure it is way down the list but with this said, this could be fixed with about 10 mins of effort by simply replacing the current click audio file with one which has more gain. Pretty frustrating to say the least. What happened to the marketing hype on the 7 that said, "Twice as Loud"??????

That is just the thing. I had the feedback app when I was playing with iOS 10 beta on my iPhone 6S Plus. Neither during the beta releases or with the final release of iOS 10 did my old phone have any of these issues. It seems to be a hardware/software clash of some sort.

I cannot blame the software because my old phone running the same OS is fine. At the same time, I cannot blame the hardware because the sound for games/videos/ringtones are all fine. Anyways, @SoundHD thanks for the update. I will keep checking in if I get anything new on my side.
